CREATIVE PROCESS

The creative process and drama work at Les Deux Monde

In the early 1990s, the artistic co-directors of Les Deux Mondes began using an approach whereby the drama text was not necessarily the point of departure of a theatrical project. They then began acting as idéateurs and co-authors of the shows, proposing a specific theme or formal exploration to a team often composed of previous collaborators.

The author, composer, scenographer, video artist, light designer, and of course actors and director work closely together to give life and form to their project. The desire for an overall kind of theatre where all drama languages have equal importance is doubled by a will for a dramatically relevant content. A play by Les Deux Mondes does not merely stage the words of a playwright. Like a scriptwriter, the playwright is part of a global enterprise, which requires an enormous amount of availability on his or her part.

Due to this atypical work process, exceptionally long periods of rehearsal are scheduled, the creative process advancing by trial and error, experimentations, developing as it goes along.

Les Deux Mondes's past and present ambitions are to come up with a significant proposal, to move audiences, but also to make use of the multimedia in a theatrical perspective.
