Dates and Mandate
The theatre company Les Deux Mondes was founded in January 1973 under the name of Théâtre de la Marmaille, among others by Monique Rioux and Daniel Meilleur who still act as artistic co-directors. A regular composer for the troupe since its inception, Michel Robidoux joined the artistic direction in 1989.
The status of non-profit corporation was acquired in May 1975. The government of Canada has also recognized Les Deux Mondes as a charitable organisation. In December 1992, the company changed its name to Les Deux Mondes; the directors felt that it better reflected their artistic explorations of the 1980s, marked by audience diversification and an increasing interest in the world outside, as evidenced by the type of shows produced and their international dissemination. In November 1996, Les Deux Mondes inaugurated their own production centre in Montréal, in a building they bought and renovated.
Decisions at Les Deux Mondes are taken by the artistic co-directors, in close association with the general manager, the tour manager and the administrative manager, in a spirit of collaboration and complementarity.
